Veterans Financial Wellbeing and Capability

“Our presentation seeks to educate current ADF members, Veterans and their families to give them the information to empower and feel equipped to manage their financial affairs, also to prepare them for the financial landscape they may experience after discharge. We cover topics such as budgeting, utilities, understanding and managing credit as well as other financial issues, such as insurance types, payment and concessions. We also take the opportunity to highlight the importance of financial literacy and the difference between financial advisors and financial counsellors. Financial counsellors support people at risk of, or experiencing financial hardship, as well as equipping people to advocate for themselves with respect to their financial situation. Financial counselling services are non-judgmental and provided free of charge.”

Alan Murray

Alan Murray, Financial Counsellor After completing an Army apprenticeship and serving for 9 years, Alan chose to change professions and became an accountant and worked in that area for over 30 years. After retirement, Alan studied financial counselling. Well into his retirement, he continues to practice at UCare Gawler Inc. During his time at UCare Gawler, he identified a need for a Veteran Centric financial counselling service provided by people with a service background.
